Lessons from a dream

I had a dream today (16th Sept 2014) and I just felt the LORD showed me a lot of things. God told me to share this so I jotted some of the things down and then backed it up with Scripture as led by God.

1. Bad company will ruin your walk with God which can make you backslide and hinder your walk with God and if you are not moving forward in your walk with God you are treading a dangerous path so pray about striving towards God and for any obstacles to be removed from your life.

1 Corinthians 15:33
Do not be misled. "Bad company corrupts good character."
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
2. Don't take for granted what you have been given it can all be taken away in a matter of seconds. Make up in your mind you will serve God because He is the only one who doesn't change. I know this can be hard, but our circumstances and emotions should not determine our walk with God. (This one convicts me so much!)
2 Timothy 4:2
Preach the word; be prepared in and out of season; correct, rebuke and encourage-with great patience and careful instruction.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

3. Test all things and use God's word to guide you. Pray for the Holy Spirit to guide you and to convict you of the things that don't please Him and follow His leading as it is true and sincere and derived from the word of God.

Ephesians 6:18
And pray in the Spirit on all occasions with all kinds of prayers and requests.

Galatians 5:16
So I say walk by the Spirit, and you will not gratify the desires of the flesh.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
4. Read and remain in the word of God because all God's laws are true and sincere.
2 Timothy 3:16
All scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in all righteousness
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

5. Stand up for Jesus even if you are standing alone, do not try to please the crowd because this leads to idolatry and leads to putting people before God. Evil days are among us but reject evil and stay firm in the faith.

Ephesians 5:16
making the most of every opportunity because the days are evil.

Matthew 7:21
"Not everyone who says to me, 'Lord, Lord' will enter the kingdom of heaven, but only the one who does the will of my Father who is in heaven."
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
6. Flee from lust and useful passions. This isn't easy because it seems as the majority of the world are promoting lust and engaging in sexual activity and it can be hard for teens and young adults especially but we are called to be different. And I want you to be encouraged by the verse below and the fact that this world is SO temporary and God is so faithful He will keep you if you let Him keep striving to Him and keep praying to Him, He hears every one of them.
Matthew 7:13-14
"Enter through the narrow gate. For wide is the gate and broad is the road that leads to destruction and many enter through it. But small is the gate and narrow is the way that leads to life and only few find it.
What does it mean to love money?
24 “No one can serve two masters. Either you will hate the one and love the other, or you will be devoted to the one and despise the other. You cannot serve both God and money. Matthew 6:24
I've read this passage many times before and thought to myself I have never really loved money. But something God revealed to me is that loving money isn't always loving the paper money or the coins the love of money is love for the things it buys such as possessions, security. Anything that money can buy that you seek security in rather than God or his word is the love of money. We need to be seeking God to be our all instead of pleasures and things which I know I struggle with at times. The love of money comes when we are not content with what we have (see Heb 13:5, Ecc 5:10) so let us be content with what we have and look at all that God has given us with thankfulness. Remember that all that is on earth is certainly passing away and that earthly wealth will mean nothing when Christ comes again (see Matt 6:19-21) because He will come in the twinkling of an eye (see 1 Corinthians 15:52) and we must be ready and found to be doing what Christ called us to do and not be found sleeping spiritually. (see Mark 13:36) .
Your soul is the most valuable thing on this earth and until you give your life to Christ you don't realize its value because this earth is passing away and we don't want to get so caught up that we lose sight of why we are here. Everyone has a purpose in Christ and until you stop chasing after everything else, nothing will change. Let us seek God first in all that we do and willingly draw near to Him in prayer and in Jesus' name asking for a content heart and a renewed mind (see James 5:16)
Day 4 - Thanksgiving
Rejoice always, pray continually, give thanks in all circumstances; for this is God's
will for you in Christ Jesus. 1 Thessalonians 5:16-18
This letter in which this verse was given was for believers and gave them instruction on how to live and these believers were warned by Paul that the day of the Lord was coming but he tells them that it should not take them by surprise. Later on he tells the believers what God's will is for those in Christ Jesus which is shown in the verse above notice he tells us to rejoice always and to pray continually and give thanks in all circumstances this can be hard sometimes and we have rough days where we are genuinely feeling discouraged and these commands that seem simple when everything is going well in our eyes but become so hard to apply in the midst of trials, big decisions or non christian environments. So how can we do these things in these hard times? If we look at the following verses we need to fix our eyes on Jesus (see Hebrews 12: 1-2) when we fix our eyes on Jesus we begin to see people in a new perspective and when we submit to God we will find it easier to rejoice and be thankful and pray. We also need to be fixing our eyes on those things that are true, noble, right, pure, lovely and admirable which is everything that God is (see Phillipians 4:8) and often in hard times we are focusing on the opposite of these things when we take our eyes off God and to the world and our focus becomes on those things which are false, ignoble, wrong, impure and horrible thoughts. When we fix our eyes upon God and realize our dependence on Him we truly can pray continually even by frequent small prayers throughout the day.
Disclaimer I really do recommend reading these verses in context to get the overall view and not just an out of context verse because these verses are aimed at specific people and situations sometimes and I really want you to understand what God is saying to you as you read each mini devotion.
Day 2 - The worries of tomorrow
Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself.
Each day has enough trouble of its own. Matthew 6:34 (NIV)
At times throughout the day I find myself getting so caught up in daily life that I miss out on my quiet time with God and I'm running on the fumes of God's word. Its so easy to worry about all the things that need doing in daily lives and Jesus understands this, He understands how easy it is for us to get caught up in worrying about what we will eat and how much to eat and what it is best to eat and drink and everything that we must do tomorrow and in our human lives and he tells us in Matthew 6:25-34 not to worry. He tells us not to worry about these things because they are not very important and your salvation doesn't depend on what we eat or how healthy or unhealthy we are in what we eat or drink there are more deeper things we should be avoiding like sexual immorality see 1 Corinthians 6:13 You say, “Food for the stomach and the stomach for food, and God will destroy them both.” The body, however, is not meant for sexual immorality but for the Lord, and the Lord for the body. You may be thinking but how do I stop worrying its easier said than done!
The answer is in Phillipians 4:6-7 "Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus."
The way to experience the peace of God is to pray to him he told us to present our requests to him. God is a loving God, he cares about us, he wants us to remain in contact with him which is why he tells us to pray in every situation. Let us therefore draw near to his throne with our prayers and requests not forgetting however to come with thanksgiving for all that He is and has already provided by his amazing grace for us in Christ Jesus.
Day 1 - Heed the warning
 "As the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways and my thoughts than your thoughts. Isaiah 55:9 (NIV)
Recently I was travelling in someone else's car and as we were travelling there were lots of signs and markers to show that there had been a diversion ahead due to roadworks or obstruction to the road but there were many signs and diversion routes that you had to obey to make it to the next clear road and avoid being stuck. I noticed that there was a long queue ahead where people had missed one of the signs and had failed to see the diversion sign and they had become stuck in traffic queues it became quite a mess. It reminded me immediately of a believers walk with Christ and convicted me of my own walk, often there are times where God will show us to do something which may seem small or unimportant to us he gives us warnings and we just ignore them and continue expecting to grow in our walk or for it to have no effect but the more we do this and continue ignoring these "small" things the bigger the consequences become. These things then become harder deal with and we may find ourselves becoming stuck in a bad situation all because we decided that our own way was better. Its time to heed the warning and turn to God, He knows better than what we know of ourselves (Matthew 10:30) and has our best interest at heart. I encourage whoever you may be to let go of your own will and surrender to God in whatever it is God is leading you to.
Pray this with me
"Lord I am fed up of going my own way in life and falling short of you. I just pray that you would forgive me of my sins and help me to walk in your way and for your blessed Spirit to guide me. Help me to surrender my will in all things and take up your will for my life instead of my own. Help me daily to carry my cross and follow you. In Jesus name I pray, Amen."
Self Dependence
Hello and welcome to my new blog!
God has been showing me recently that I don't pray enough in times where I am going through hard situations or temptation I often feel to take the matter into my own hands because I want control, I want to sort out the situation in my own strength and to be independent and then come in prayer and thanksgiving to God afterwards but God has been showing me recently that this approach wrong because its self dependence instead of God dependence and it leads to self praise 2 Corinthians 3:5 (NIV) Not that we are competent in ourselves to claim anything for ourselves, but our competence comes from God. This means that we, as Christians need to be depending on God instead of ourselves in hard times if we depend on ourselves in hard times we are tempted to claim the glory of being able to depend on ourselves you may be thinking how do I depend on God? One verse that has really come to me during hardship and desire to pursue my own way is Matthew 6:33 "But seek first the Kingdom of God and all these things shall be added unto you. We seek the Kingdom of God first by putting our hope in Christ and seeking his word before anything else that means coming to him in prayer and reading before giving thought to any other worldly ideas and pursuits. When Jesus then says in this passage all these things shall be added unto you He is talking about the all of the worries of life. He understands that we will be tempted to worry and he tells us not to in Matthew 6:25-34 He tells us why we should not worry because God is in control of everything so the more we put dependence on our own control the more we will fall into worry. So today instead of pursuing our own solution to life's calamities remember God understands more than anything you even understand about yourself! Please take time to pray about seeking God's will instead of seeking your own will and your own dependence which will only lead you to worry.
God Bless you all, love in Christ alone
